Ofsted and raising standards

Ofsted inspected our school in July 2015 and we were judged as 'GOOD'

As most of you already know, Windlehurst School was visited by OfSTED inspectors in July, just before we broke up for the summer holidays. Because of the summer holidays, the result of the inspection wasn’t available until we returned in the autumn. However, I do hope you agree that the result was definitely worth waiting for. OfSTED have officially recognised something that we have known for a long time – Windlehurst is a good school.

For many years, Windlehurst has experienced some difficulties and, as a result, its reputation in Stockport has been somewhat mixed. Now we can all hold our heads up and be proud of our school – please feel free to spread the word!

Here are some of the things that were noted in the report:

  • Staff are very committed to students’ success.
  • Teaching is good
  • Behaviour improves dramatically after students have spent time at the school
  • Students gain in confidence
  • Governors focus on school improvement
  • The students are being enabled to play a full part in modern Britain
  • The school focuses on meeting the needs of every student
  • Arrangements for safeguarding are effective and robust
  • The behaviour of students is good.

These are just a few of the headline comments but if you want to read the whole report, it can be found on the OfSTED website.

Welcome

Windlehurst School caters for young people, aged 11 to 16 who have identified Social, Emotional or Behavioural Difficulties.

Many of our young people will have had a long history of failing to reach their potential in mainstream schools. Pupils may have been excluded from school or found the experience stressful. Much of this stress will also have been experienced by families of the young people.

The aim of Windlehurst School is to re-engage these young people in their education, through well planned, engaging and appropriately differentiated lessons, designed to meet individual needs. They are taught in small groups with a high ratio of staff to pupils and in a supportive environment.

I hope you enjoy our website and, through it, gain a better understanding of what we do at Windlehurst and what we believe. We are very proud of our school and what our young people achieve. We are delighted to share it with you.
